As an Employee, where does an individual start if they want to apply for Minnesota Paid Leave (PFML)?

1-Notify your Participant Employer at least 30 days prior to leave

-What type of leave (Medical, ect.)

3-Create an applicant through the Minnesota Paid Leave Website (Minnesota Paid Leave | Paid Leave)

4-Complete application and upload proper documentation.

 

Can individuals opt out of PFML?

-No, if you are employed in Minnesota, you are automatically enrolled.

 

In which situation can an individual apply for Minnesota Paid Leave?

-Medical Leave: up to 12 weeks for yourself

-Family Leave: up to 12 weeks to care or support a loved one. 

*But not more than 20 weeks when all combined*

 

Who would approve an individual's leave and how would they get paid?

-This program is managed by the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), they manage all requests. Payments from Paid Leave are made by the State of Minnesota, directly to you for each week that you take leave.
