Learn about your Client Experience and Outreach Specialist: Lynn M

Hello, I am Lynn. I am a Client Experience and Outreach Specialist. here at Consumer Directions Inc.  

I received a B.S. degree in Social Work from Augsburg College and am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Minnesota. Most of my career has been dedicated to working with individuals with developmental disabilities in residential and day program settings, advocating with legislators, and implementing person-centered training models to help each person reach their highest potential.

I also run a small guardianship business. In 1995, I was honored with the Doris Sveen Award for Excellence in Guardianship by the Minnesota Association for Guardianship and Conservatorship. My work often involves balancing safety with self-determination. I assist with housing, medical care, long-term supports and services, applying for or monitoring public benefits, ensuring yearly taxes are completed, accessing mental health services if needed, attending doctors’ appointments, and supporting care, comfort, and work programs. Because many individuals are involved in a person’s life, negotiation is a constant part of my role.

I offer a unique perspective because I live daily with my own disability, which began at age two. I understand firsthand the challenges of access, discrimination, funding, and the ever-changing landscape of services and supports, as well as how these factors impact others. I actively direct services in my own life and am passionate about sharing resources, educating, and guiding others on their self-direction journey.

I have served on various boards and committees, both nationally and locally. Outside of work, I enjoy theater, family, travel, church, music, and attending local events. My heart belongs to one very special dog named Sophie.
